Who is this course for?
This programme provides you with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills for the plumbing trade. Featuring in-depth theory and specialist practical learning, it is designed for learners who are independent, committed and wish to advance in the industry.
The qualification covers many areas within plumbing and domestic heating, such as hot and cold water supplies, sanitation and understanding health and safety within building services engineering.
As well as plumbing know-how, learners will develop their skills in maths and English, which will support their main programme of study, help their future progression and enhance their life skills.
Entry Requirements
You must undertake and pass an interview and aptitude test. You will also require three GCSEs at grade 4 in Maths, English and ideally a science or technical subject.
What will you learn?
You will cover practical plumbing skills such as jointing and bending and theory elements including:
- Health and Safety
- Electrical Principles
- Common Plumbing Processes
- Scientific Principles
- Cold Water Systems
- Domestic Hot Water Systems
- Sanitation Systems
- Central Heating Systems (pipework only)
- Drainage Systems
- Understanding how to communicate with others in Building Services
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
Students will be required to purchase three polo shirts, a pair of boots and trouser overalls. They are also advised to purchase a course book for revision. It is recommended that learners purchase some tools to assist them in completing the practical elements of the course.
How will you be assessed?
Candidates will be assessed via an end-of-year theory exam.
Where next?
You can progress to a Level 3 programme in Plumbing or gain employment to complete your NVQ. Other options include a National Diploma in Construction or Civil Engineering.
